As consumers, the internet has been both a blessing and a curse.   When you are ready to research your next watch purchase, the good news is that there is plenty of information out there on the net.  The bad news is there is too much information out there!

It can become a very overwhelming process.  First you have to decide on which brand to buy – then start narrowing it down to a specific model.  You research reviews and technical specs until it all starts to blend together in your brain.  Once you finally decide on the perfect timepiece, you have an even harder decision:  where to buy it?

The two most common options are the local jewelry store and an online merchant.

The local jewelry store is always a safe bet.  You can try on the watch, get advice and see lots of options.  Unfortunately, you will likely pay a premium for that luxury.  Expect to potentially pay hundreds more – or hope to catch a great sale.

But what if you don’t need to see a bunch of different options?  What if you know exactly which one you want – but need to find the best price?  In that case, you are back on the good old Internet.  The downside, of course, is that you don’t always know how reputable your online dealer is?  Maybe you’ll get lucky – but maybe not.  There is nothing worse than getting that “great deal” on a watch, only to have the merchant ignore you if you need to return it.

One of the best discoveries I’ve found for this type of thing is Amazon.  I know what you are thinking, because I thought the same thing.  Amazon sells books, not watches.  However, I was surprised to find that they actually have a ton of watches for sale at really great prices.  Best of all, you are dealing with a reputable company and not some mystery dot-com salesman.  Factor in easy access to user reviews and Amazon becomes an easy pick for online purchases.  You might even save enough to pick up an extra watch for your spouse!
